The Kumbh Mela, a significant religious gathering, is set to be celebrated in Prayagraj (Allahabad) in 2019, spanning from January 14th to March 4th. The ritual of Shahi Snan is scheduled for January 14, coinciding with the auspicious day of Makar Sankranti as per the lunar calendar. On this significant day, approximately 25 million devotees from across the country are expected to grace the festival with their presence. Prayagraj previously hosted the Kumbh Mela in 2012, drawing numerous Hindus to witness the sacred occasion.
In 2019, Prayagraj will host the Ardha Kumbh Mela, providing devotees with an opportunity to immerse their souls and bodies in the sacred nectar bestowed by the divine. Prayagraj, historically known as Allahabad, has been a source of inspiration for ancient Indian sages, poets, dramatists, social commentators, and scholars throughout the ages. The city has played a significant role in nurturing cultural, literary, Vedic, and educational institutions.
One of the city’s prominent features is the Triveni Sangam, where the rivers Ganga, Yamuna, and the hidden Saraswati meet, making it a revered and sacred site for pilgrims. The Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj is not only a religious congregation but also a cultural and spiritual phenomenon that attracts millions of devotees seeking divine blessings and spiritual purification.
