Pir Matsyendranath

Pir Matsyendranath is a revered shrine located on the banks of the Shipra River, dedicated to Matsyendra Nath, a renowned preceptor of the Nath sect. This shrine is a testament to the syncretic cultural and religious heritage of Ujjain, as it is equally revered by both Muslims and Hindus.

Matsyendra Nath, associated with the Natha sect, was a sage and devotee of Lord Shiva. The shrine, believed to date back to the 6th-7th century, is characterized by its simplicity in architectural design. It features a white structure with a dome, surrounded by small minarets on all four sides. Despite its simple design, the shrine’s appeal lies in its tranquil surroundings and the reverence it commands among the people.
