The Kaliadeh Palace is a prominent site located on the banks of the River Shipra in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh. It stands out as one of the most visited attractions in the state.
The palace has a picturesque setting, situated on what appears to be an islet separated by a small stretch of water. This unique location adds to its elegance and charm. The surrounding landscape features the scenic beauty of the River Shipra, creating a tranquil and enchanting atmosphere.

The Avanti-mahatmya of Skanda Purana describes the Sun Temple and two tanks, the Surya Kunda and the Brahma Kunda, in Ujjain. The remains of the old temple can still be seen, and the site has historical and architectural significance.
The Sun Temple and the associated tanks are mentioned in the Skanda Purana, and the temple is dedicated to the sun god. The Surya Kunda and Brahma Kunda are two sacred tanks associated with the temple.
The palace near the Sun Temple has a central dome that showcases beautiful Persian architecture. An inscription from 1458 AD records the building of the palace during the time of Mahmud Khilji. Additionally, there are Persian inscriptions in one of the long corridors of the palace that mention visits by Emperor Akbar and Jehangir.
Due to the ravages of time and events like the Pindari attacks, the palace fell into disrepair. However, it was restored by Madhav Rao Scindia in 1920, bringing back its past glory. The Sun Temple was also part of this restoration effort.
The palace, with its compound wall, pillars, and the restored Sun Temple, stands as a testimony to historical and cultural heritage. The location of the palace, surrounded by the Shipra River, adds to its natural charm. The restoration work has preserved and revived the elegance of this historical site.
